Admiral William Fallon quits over Iran policy

Admiral William Fallon, Commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), the unit of the armed forces tasked with the Middle East, East Africa and Central Asia, resigned his commission today. The Admiral cited differences with the administration over foreign policy (what? no, never!), differences in part made public in a recent article in Esquire.

Fallon was the first naval officer to hold the position, and if the Esquire portrait is to be believed, he was quite an asset to have out there. Someone who isn’t afraid of war, but perhaps more importantly, isn’t afraid of peace… and just might have some ideas of how to secure it. But that wouldn’t do… we can’t have some Navy admiral showing up incompetent chickenhawks in Washington.

Heckuva job, Georgie.
