“The central battleground in the battle against al Qaeda is in Iraq today,” McCain said, noting a message allegedly released by Osama bin Laden last week calling Iraq ‘a perfect base.’

I’m envisioning a Looney Tunes cartoon where McCain, carrying his blunderbus, is chasing Osama bin Laden in hot pursuit, but loses sight of him as he comes to a fork in the road… one way leads to Waziristan and the other way leads to Iraq. Suddenly, a local yokel appears before McCain (it’s clearly Osama in disguise) and McCain asks him the infamous “which way did he go? which way did he go?”. The disguised Osama thinks for a second: “uuuuuuh… he went that-a way!” and points toward Iraq.
100 years, and 80,000 US casualties later and the rest, as they say, is history.
