del.icio.us provides a handy ‘post to del.icio.us’ bookmarklet to use if your browser doesn’t support, or you choose not to use, their custom plugin. As it happens, the only thing I like to use their plugin for is a handy way to post items to del.icio.us. However, since I’m using the Firefox 3.0 beta at home, the del.icio.us plugin doesn’t work for me.
The one thing I didn’t like about the bookmarklet is that it redirects the current page to the del.icio.us tag page. Sure, once you save, it will send you back to the original url, but it loses your place in the page. Often, I’m about halfway through an article when I decide to bookmark it in del.icio.us, and when it sends me back to the original article I have to find where I was.
Simple solution: change their bookmarklet to open up the del.icio.us page in a new window.
Use the link below, drag it to your bookmarks (or right-click add it). Tested in Firefox 3.0 beta. Internet Explorer can stuff it.
