I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to see a moralist hypocrite go down. As reported here, on April 27, the USAID chief Randall Tobias resigned when it surfaced that he was a customer of a D.C. escort service (and “alleged” prostitution ring).
Normally I would have just chuckled at the inevitable outing of D.C. political hack in a prostitution scandal… I’d be surprised if Tobias is the highest public official to be involved in this one. What prompted me to write this entry though, was the fact that Tobias was a die-hard supporter of so-called “abstinence-only” programs for the international aid campaigns of which he was in charge (most notably, to help combat AIDS).
To add icing to the cake, the CBS article mentions that Tobias had apparently switched to a different escort agency specializing in Central American women.)
Apparently, Tobias expects those in the developing world to do what he was incapable of- keeping it in his pants.
